Most of you are probably unaware that so far summer in Slovakia has felt far more like early spring. It has rained almost every day since we arrived, the rivers are all swolen, and roads, railways, and homes are being flooded and washed out.
I wouldn't call it a natural disaster, but it is anything but ideal. Tomorrow, however, promises sunshine and oh how I am looking forward to it!
Today marked the beginning of our month of host city visits. Our team has split into three mini teams in order to visit all of the cities that will be hosting camps this summer to promote the camp and build relationships with local youth groups. I left late this morning with Ed, Holly, and Stano (one of our Slovak interns) for Liptovsky Hradok. Perhaps the highlight of my day was when we were driving along one of the many swollen and "angry" looking rivers that cut through Slovakia. I broke into the classic Disney song "Just Around the River Bend!" and when I was done, Stano turned to me and said "Cory, you look like Pocahantas"
I used to stand at the edge of my driveway with the wind whipping my hair about, pretending to be Pocahantas. My dreams have finally been realized.
Please continue to pray for me. While this experience has been incredible so far, there are still times when I just want to go home and sleep in my own bed, or talk with people who know me and my background. I've definitley struggled more on this trip than I ever have before, but even in my struggles God is so real and so near. I wouldn't trade them for anything.
I have absolutely loved getting to know my team. They are really awesome people, and the more I get to know them, the more I appreciate them and their talents. God has truly blessed us with a team that works well together and enjoys each other. Praise him!
Thanks again for all of your prayers and support. I wouldn't be here without you!
